Art In The Mill: Ken Harvey
Photography Exhibit at UNH Manchester
Manchester, NH: UNH Manchester will feature the work of photographer Ken Harvey in an exhibit that will run from January 19 through April 15, 2009. The exhibit includes black and white and color photography from venues around the world. The public is invited to meet the artist at a reception on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 from 5:00 to 6:00 PM. The exhibit is located on the second floor of the University Center, located at 400 Commercial Street in Manchester’s millyard.
Ken Harvey developed an interest in art and photography while studying architecture in the early 1960’s at Pratt Institute in New York City. His interest in photography grew more serious when he was in the US Army and stationed in Heidelberg, Germany where he was able to use their photography lab.
He retired from his career in information systems in January 2006, a move which allowed him to pursue his love of photography. He said, “People have asked me what kind of photography I do. There’s no clear answer. To me, it’s the image and the feeling that count, not the genre. I see wonderful images in a variety of places, so I would not like to be restricted to a single type or format.”
Harvey, a Merrimack resident, is affiliated with the Manchester Art Association, the New Hampshire Art Association, the Nashua Area Artists Association and the Photographers Forum in Nashua. Harvey’s work has received recognition including: Best In Show, Manchester Art Association, September 2008; First Place, Manchester Art Association, June 2008; Judges' Choice, New England camera Club Council, July 2008; Honorable Mention, NH Art Association, March 2008 and the Jack Nowicki Memorial Award, May 2008.
