Spend the Summer Learning in Florence, Italy!
Manchester, NH -- This summer the politics and society program at UNH Manchester will offer a four-credit course in Florence, Italy. The course, The Politics of Italy (POLT 557), will be offered June 1 through June 28. It will be taught in English at the beautiful Institute at Palazzo Rucellai in central Florence.
The course will be taught by Michael Contarino, Coordinator of the Politics and Society program at UNH Manchester. Professor Contarino is an expert on Italy, and he has taught Italian Politics numerous times at several American university programs in Italy. Last summer he was the Academic Director of a study tour to Italy for public school administrators and teachers, sponsored by the State of Delaware Department of Education. In 2002, Professor Contarino founded and served as the first Resident Director of the UNH in Italy Program. During his last sabbatical, Professor Contarino was the Senior Foreign Policy advisor to the Presidential campaign of Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico, and the chief architect of his "New Realism" foreign policy.
Professor Contarino received his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1984. He has held several non-academic positions, including four years as an Economic Affairs Officer for the United Nations World Food Council in Rome. His writings in the area of Political Economy have been published in such journals as Comparative Political Studies and British Journal of Industrial Relations. Currently, his research focuses on Human Rights, US Foreign Policy and patterns of political partisanship in the US and Italy.
Non-students and students of all majors are welcome, and there are no pre-requisites. A course fee of $1,550 includes housing and use of the Palazzo Rucellai facilities. The price does not include tuition for the four-credit course. Financial aid is available for qualified individuals.
