UNH Manchester Welcomes Dr. Patricia Halpin

UNH Manchester Welcomes Dr. Patricia Halpin

Manchester, NH– UNH Manchester Dean Kristin Woolever announced in February that Dr. Patricia A. Halpin will join the faculty as a lecturer in biological sciences beginning in the fall 2009. The lecturer position was developed to support the new biological sciences program, a four-year Bachelor of Arts degree that was launched in September of 2008. The program compliments the college's existing two-year Associate in Science degree and helps students develop analytical and laboratory skills to prepare for entry-level positions or graduate programs that focus on some aspect of biological science.

Dr. Halpin has taught at the college as an adjunct faculty member since 1999. She has taught Anatomy and Physiology, Diversity of Life, Diseases of the 21st Century, Biotechnology & Society, and Biology. Dr. Halpin, a resident of Sunapee, is a popular and respected teacher with both science and non-science majors. "Dr. Halpin is a phenomenal professor who is enthusiastic about the subject matter," commented one student. She is also a valued colleague and "has been an important part of the Biology Program since she arrived," noted Dr. Stephen Pugh, Program Director. Her teaching style and use of technology in the classroom have enhanced the delivery of the college's science curriculum.

Dr. Halpin is the recipient of a number of fellowships and research grants and the author of numerous articles. She received the 2006 Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Award from UNH Manchester. Beyond teaching at UNH Manchester, she is an instructor for Johnson State College (VT) in their external degree program. Her research and previous work experience includes her position as the Resource Faculty in Science at Granite State College and a postdoctoral appointment in the Department of Physiology at Dartmouth Medical School. She has worked as a research assistant at MIT's Centers for Cancer Research, Environmental Health Sciences and in the Department of Radiation Therapy at Harvard Medical School. She earned her B.S. from Old Dominion University and her M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut.

UNH Manchester, UNH's urban campus, offers liberal arts and applied majors in business, science, and technology, all with an urban focus. UNH Manchester is UNH. Learn more at www.unhm.unh.edu.
