Supporting K-12 Education at UNH Manchester

Manchester, NH– This summer UNH Manchester will offer three educational opportunities for New Hampshire K-12 mathematics teachers. Thanks to grant funding from the NH Department of Education, the mathematics department at UNH Manchester will offer LIME G&M, Leaders in Mathematics Education: Geometry and Measurement, for teachers in grades K-6; Teaching Everyone Algebra for teachers in grades 7-12; and LIME DSP, Leaders in Mathematics Education: Data Analysis, Statistics and Probability, for teachers in grades K-6.

LIME G&M, Leaders in Mathematics Education: geometry and measurement will be taught by Roberta Kieronski, Assistant Professor of Mathematics at UNH Manchester, Betty Erickson, adjunct Education Professor and Kathleen Neville, senior program naturalist at the Amoskeag Fishways. This three-credit graduate course is for K-6 teachers and will take place from July 13 – 17, three additional Saturdays and includes a free mathematics conference to be held January 9, 2010. The course is offered in partnership with the Amoskeag Fishways Learning and Visitor Center.

Teaching Everyone Algebra is a two-credit mathematics course at UNH Manchester and will be taught by Professor Roberta Kieronski and Betty Erickson from July 20 – 24, two Saturday meetings, and includes a free mathematics conference to be held January 9, 2010. The course is designed for teachers in grades 7-12

LIME DSP, Leaders in Mathematics Education: Data Analysis, Statistics and Probability will be taught by Roberta Kieronski, Betty Erickson and Wendy Schorr, a senior naturalist at the Amoskeag Fishways. This three-credit graduate course is for K-6 teachers and will be held on July 27-31, 2009, three additional Saturdays, and includes a free mathematics conference to be held January 9, 2010.  This class is also offered in partnership with the Amoskeag Fishways Learning and Visitor Center.
