7th Annual Teachers as Researchers Conference Presented by the University of New Hampshire at Manchester
Manchester, NH– The 7th Annual Teachers as Researchers Conference will be held at the University of New Hampshire at Manchester on Friday, May 8th. Registration begins at 8:00am and presentations are scheduled until 3:50pm. The conference is the capstone event for the UNHM Master of Education and Master of Arts in Teaching programs. Over 30 presenters from around the region will include UNHM M.Ed. and M.A.T. candidates, novice and veteran classroom teachers, community members, administrators, and curriculum specialists. This year, we will have Assistant Professor from Indiana University, Carnegie Scholar, and author of Immigrant Students and Literacy: Reading, Writing, and Remembering, Gerald Campano, giving the keynote address. Throughout his work, Gerald has been committed to creating opportunities for students to mobilize their identities and rich cultural resources in the elementary literacy curriculum.
The Teachers as Researchers Conference highlights the valuable role of teacher research in school reform and professional development. The conference serves as an opportunity for interested educators to network with colleagues, share their work, and deepen their understanding of teacher research. The seventh year of the TAR Conference should not be missed by anyone interested in learning about new trends and methodology in the field of education. Some of the topics in the more than 20 presentations this year will include, “Helping Students Acquire Vocabulary Knowledge in English as a First and Second Language,” “Using Primary Sources to Engage Secondary Social Studies Students,” “Conversing Our Way to Superior Writing: Using Dialogue Journals with English Language Learners,” “Honors, Differentiated Instruction, and the Heterogeneous Classroom,” “Promoting Joy in the Journey of Reading Through Read-Alouds,” “Using Technology and Students Individual Learning Techniques to Differentiate Instruction,” “Fostering Positive School-Family Relationships with Immigrant/Refugee Parents,” and “The Everyday I.E.P.”
