UNH Manchester Professor Named Prestigious Fulbright Scholar

Dr. John Resch, professor of history at the University of New Hampshire

Manchester, NH – Dr. John Resch, professor of history at the University of New Hampshire in Manchester, has been selected as a Fulbright Scholar in Shanghai, China. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Fulbright Program is the U.S. government's flagship international exchange program. This prestigious program is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.

During the 2009-2010 academic year, Professor Resch will teach courses on the American Revolution, Democracy in America, America after World War II, and on American Culture and Ideas, at East China Normal University (ECNU) in Shanghai. Resch will also be contributing to the development of a new graduate program in American Studies at the university. The program will be offered as part of the ECNU’s recently established American Studies Centre which teaches students about American history, politics, social issues and culture. This is the second Fulbright Scholar grant awarded to Dr. Resch. He was a Fulbright Scholar during the 2001-2002 academic year at the University of Debrecen in Hungary where he taught American History.

Resch holds a bachelor’s from Denison University and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University. He serves as President of the Board of Directors of the World Affairs Council of New Hampshire and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Child and Family Services of New Hampshire. He has published widely in the fields of American history, including the American Revolution and the Early Republic. His most recent book is War and Society in the American Revolution: Mobilization and Home Fronts (Northern Illinois, University Press, 2007).
