It's Easy Being Green!
Workshop for NH High School Science Educators
Manchester, NH – This summer UNH Manchester's biological sciences program will offer a green chemistry workshop for high school science educators called "It's Easy Being GREEN!"
New Hampshire high school science educators are invited to learn about the principles and practice of Green Chemistry (a.k.a. Sustainable Chemistry). Green chemistry, also known as sustainable chemistry, is the design of chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use or generation of hazardous substances (EPA). Teachers will get hands-on experience with a green chemistry lab activity they can use in their classroom. They will also practice their new knowledge by planning out several ways to green their own lab activities.
The program will be offered from August 17-19 on the UNH Manchester campus. A teacher stipend and staff development certificate will be available for participants. The program, in its second year, has been generously supported by the NH Department of Education through the LESCN Center Grant. The workshop coordinator is Sarah Prescott Kenick, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at UNH Manchester since 2006. For more information and to find out how to apply — go to http://sprescott.wikispaces.com, (see Green Chemistry Educator Workshop page at the wiki site). Professor Kenick may also be reached at 603-641-4334 or sarah.kenick@unh.edu. There are limited spaces available and applicants are accepted on a rolling basis.
UNH Manchester, UNH's urban campus, offers liberal arts and applied majors in business, science, and technology, all with an urban focus. UNH Manchester is UNH. Learn more at www.unhm.unh.edu.
