Living in a Digital World

Saul O Sidore Lecture Series at UNH Manchester

Manchester, NH – Advances in technology continue to change the way we live and do business. The New York Times reported that American teenagers sent and received an average of 2,272 text messages per month in 2008. Nielson households watched more than 151 hours of television per month, Internet users logged on for 27 viewing hours a month, and mobile subscribers consumed nearly four hours of video on a mobile phone and almost three hours on the Internet during the fourth quarter of 2008, (Nielsen Company). Technology has not only changed how we get information and communicate with one another, it’s also changed things such as how and where businesses target consumers and how organizations operate internally.

UNH Manchester will look at these trends and the impact of digital technology in greater depth through an upcoming lecture series, “Living in a Digital World,” held during the 2009/2010 academic year. Funded by the Saul O Sidore Memorial Foundation, the series will include presentations by local business leaders and experts. The series is free, open to the public and takes place in UNH Manchester’s third floor auditorium.  Please contact Kim Wall, public relations program coordinator, for more information: Kim.Wall@unh.edu or (603) 641-4306.

About the Saul O Sidore Memorial Foundation
The Saul O Sidore Memorial Foundation continues the legacy of the Foundation’s namesake, Saul O Sidore, a civic leader who was guided by ethical principles, a commitment to social justice and a deep appreciation of the value of education. Sidore, the son of immigrants, was born in New York City where he entered the knitting business. He moved Brookshire Knitting Mills, later known as Pandora, to Manchester in 1940 where he led the company to impressive growth until his death in 1964.

The Sidore Lecture Series was established in 1965 to offer programs that challenge existing information sources with new and vital ways of looking at the many issues in all phases of our society and our world. The Series funds programs at all four of the USNH campuses, including UNH Manchester, to enhance institutional efforts to challenge students and the wider community.

UNH Manchester, UNH's urban campus, offers liberal arts and applied majors in business, science, and technology, all with an urban focus. UNH Manchester is UNH. Learn more at www.unhm.unh.edu.
