Doing Business in a Digital World

Saul O Sidore Lecture Series at UNH Manchester

Manchester, NH – Advances in technology continue to change the way we live and do business. High speed internet providers such as FairPoint Communications have changed the digital footprint of rural communities such as northern NH, which could change where businesses and people decide to locate. Technology has also streamlined health care communications and records for patients and providers, saving time, resources and making information more readily available. New Hampshire Public Radio recently launched a new web-based project called “Working it Out,” a site designed to capture the stories of individual and community experiences during these difficult economic times. Technology has changed our world, allowing us to connect and share information in new and exciting ways.

UNH Manchester will explore these trends in greater depth during a panel discussion on Thursday, October 8, 2009. The event, “Doing Business in a Digital World,” is part of the University’s Saul O Sidore Lecture Series, “Living in a Digital World,” held during the 2009/2010 academic year. The evening will begin at 5:15 p.m. with refreshments and an opportunity to network. The panel discussion will be held from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. in UNH Manchester’s third floor auditorium.

Panelists will include Jon Greenberg, Executive Editor, NHPR; Ellen Scarponi, Senior Manager, FairPoint Communications; and Denise Purington BSN RN , VP & CIO for Elliot Health System. The panel will be moderated by Nick Soggu, president & CEO of SilverTech, Inc. and adjunct professor in the computer information systems program at UNH Manchester.

Funded by the Saul O Sidore Memorial Foundation, the event is free, open to the public and takes place in UNH Manchester’s third floor auditorium.  Please contact Kim Wall, public relations program coordinator, for more information: Kim.Wall@unh.edu or (603)641-4306.

About the Saul O Sidore Memorial Foundation
The Saul O Sidore Memorial Foundation continues the legacy of the Foundation’s namesake, Saul O Sidore, a civic leader who was guided by ethical principles, a commitment to social justice and a deep appreciation of the value of education. Sidore, the son of immigrants, was born in New York City where he entered the knitting business. He moved Brookshire Knitting Mills, later known as Pandora, to Manchester in 1940 where he led the company to impressive growth until his death in 1964.

The Sidore Lecture Series was established in 1965 to offer programs that challenge existing information sources with new and vital ways of looking at the many issues in all phases of our society and our world. The Series funds programs at all four of the USNH campuses, including UNH Manchester, to enhance institutional efforts to challenge students and the wider community.

UNH Manchester, UNH's urban campus, offers liberal arts and applied majors in business, science, and technology, all with an urban focus. UNH Manchester is UNH. Learn more at www.unhm.unh.edu.
