UNH Manchester’s Spring Course Listing Now Available Online
Manchester, NH – People interested in taking courses this spring at UNH Manchester can now checkout the schedule online. The college will offer more than 300 graduate and undergraduate courses at its millyard campus, with several being offered partially online. Art of the Modern World (ARTS 573)
Explore paintings, sculptures, and architecture in Europe and America from the French Revolution to the present. The course surveys the rapidly changing currents and countercurrents in modern art, including Neo-classicism and Romanticism, Realism and Impressionism, the Cubist revolution, and various forms of 20th century abstraction. In addition to the individual artists and movements, discussion of the cultural upheavals that have driven modernism's pervasive sense of crisis and pursuit of the "new." Taught by Andrew Stangel, adjunct art history professor, on Wednesday’s from 1:15 – 4:50.
Biotechnology and Society (BSCI 422)
The course provides a basic understanding of genetic engineering. Techniques discussed will include: cloning, gene transfer, the Polymerase chain reaction (PCR), in vitro fertilization, organ transplants, and paternity testing. Ethical issues involved with each technological advance will be examined and each student will need to state their personal opinion on each issue. Class will be offered in the traditional classroom and online using Blackboard. Taught by Patricia Halpin, lecture of biology,on Thursday’s from 1:00 – 4:00.
The course explores the psychological motivations that cause individuals to engage in political violence, the different types of organizational structures that enable terrorists to pursue their goals, the types of political conditions that breed terrorism and those which lead to its demise. The course will cover numerous case studies from different parts of the world, including case studies of Hamas, the Irish Republican Army and al Qaeda. Taught by Melinda Negron, lecturer of politics and society, on Wednesday’s from 6:00 –9:00.
