Building the UNH Manchester Brand

UNH Manchester's Marketing & Community Relations Office (MCR) is responsible for building, enhancing, and protecting the college's image through consistent messages communicated to internal and external audiences. We tell the UNH Manchester story in media, through public programs and events and in the college's printed and electronic media including the web site. The following design guidelines and standards will help you develop publications in your office. If you want MCR to work with you on your project, please complete the job request form to begin the process.

UNH Manchester Graphic Design Guidelines and Standards

Use of the redesigned UNH Manchester logo is recommended for all college materials. The logo is available here for download (EPS, JPG, TIFF and GIF formats). The following information is provided as a guide to help you use the various logo formats.

TIPS: EPS files can be scaled up or down in size without any quality loss. Never scale the logo disproportionately and never increase the size of a .tif, .gif, or .jpeg or a blurry logo will result. If you need the logo larger than what's provided here, you can contact the Marketing & Community Relations Office and we can provide you with the file that meets your specifications. NOTE: Please discontinue use of any materials with the older "chimney" logo.

  • EPS: Vector files should be used when possible and as they provide you with the best quality. Downloads are .eps files that were created in Adobe Illustrator, which are vector-based images. If sending the logo out to print for any UNH Manchester collateral, you should provide the vendor with an EPS image. The logos are sized to 8x10 inches, but can be scaled up or down to any size needed and will NOT lose quality. Even if you cannot view the file on your computer, the majority of the print shops will be able to both view and use the files and generally prefer a vector-based file.
  • Tif: These files were created in Photoshop and are .tif files sized to 8x10 inches and are 300 dpi and on a transparent layer. These files would be used when you want to place the image in a document and have a photo or a color showing through and can't get the .eps files to work for you. Tifs do not compress files at all so will not lose quality over time from being opened the way a .jpg will.
  • Jpeg: These jpeg files are 5 inches in width and 300 DPI and can be scaled down in size but should never be increased above 100%.
  • Gif: Set up for the web only and is not to be used for print.

Logos for Download

The UNH Manchester logo comes in two variations and can be seen below. The logo on the left will be referred to as the as UNH Manchester logo and can be used in either blue or black. The logo on the right will be referred to as UNH Manchester line art logo and can be used in blue, black or in white on any color background or displayed on an image. Both variations are acceptable for publication.

Word Mark

The UNH word mark has been designed with specific dimensions and spacing to be easily read, readily identifiable, and distinctive. It works well as a companion to Palatino, the typeface already in use by the University.

Stationery

University policy requires that all University offices and departments use the standard stationery formats available through Printing Services. If there is a format question about your job, Printing Services will refer you to the UNH Manchester Marketing & Community Relations Office.

Guidelines for Using the Word Mark and Logo

  • Because the size and space relationships of the letters in the word mark are part of a protected trademark, alteration of the word mark in any way is unacceptable (outlining, shadows, bold, stretching or condensing, different spacing, etc.). The same is true of the logo-it must not be altered in any way.
  • Leave adequate space on all sides of the word mark: measure the height of the "U" in the word mark as it appears in your project and leave an equal or greater amount of space on each side of it.
  • Avoid printing other graphic elements behind or over the word mark.
  • See the section on licensing and merchandising if you are planning to use the word mark on a commercial product.

University Colors

The University colors, blue (Pantone Matching System 288) and white, must be used on stationery and business cards. Other colors in UNH Manchester's color palette used in publications: PMS 490, maroon and PMS 4635, brown. The logo should be used in blue, white or black only.

Licensing and Merchandising

If the University name, word mark, logo, mascot, other graphic design, or photograph is to be used in any commercial way, contact the vice president for finance and administration for approval. Maintaining the trademark protection assures appropriate use and ensures that revenues return to the University. Similar guidelines exist for use of the University's athletic marks. Please contact Marketing & Community Relations Office if you have questions regarding commercial use of the University's marks.

Advertising

For all employment advertising, contact Human Resources, 641-4167. For help with other advertising, contact the Marketing & Community Relations Office.

The University Seal

The University's seal marks the transformation of the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts into the University of New Hampshire. The seal depicts a respect for ancient academic traditions along with the tremendous ambition and enthusiasm of that year-1923. There are two other dates on the seal: the date the University was founded, as the New Hampshire College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts, in Hanover-1866; and the date the college moved to its Durham campus-1893.

The trademarked version of the seal is most appropriately used on diplomas and other designated official University documents. As with the word mark and logo, the University seal may not be altered in any way.

If the University word mark, logo, or seal are to be used in any commercial way, approval must be received from the vice president for finance and administration.

NOTE:

  • PMS 288 is University blue
  • PMS 490 is University red
  • PMS 4635 is University brown
